A letter from Class 1 of XWLY

August 4th 2009

Hong Zhu starts classes, she always keep her head down low. She does not watch others, she does not speak, she does not play with any toys.  I try to put a piece of apple in her hands. She does not eat it. And then I put the apple into her mouth, she starts to eat it. What her ayi said is right, she is a bit lazy. I am trying to look for her interests and make a good relationship with her.

She starts to raise her head and eyes, she also start to look other students. She likes following me when my class goes for a walk. But she does not play with any toys using her hands.

I see a big improvement today. Hong Zhu helped me put away the chairs after class and she even raised the fly tent in her room by herself when she went home.

August 7th 2009

I discovered that Hong Zhu could understand others after some days and time spent together with her. She tried to get the apple on the table when she found I was not watching her. It was funny. The first time she picked up a piece of apple and then put it back on the desk. After that she realised that there was nobody watch her so she took the apple again and ate it quickly.

During the afternoon class she throw a book on the floor. I asked her to pick it up  and put it back on desk. She just sat there and did not do anything. And then I put two pieces of pear on the desk. I told her she could eat them after she picked the book back up and put it on the desk. Then I hid in the bathroom so I could observe her behaviour. She took a piece of pear and started to eat it, thinking that I was not there.  Then I returned to her and told her she should put the book on the desk and then she could eat the pear. At last she picked up the book slowly and then put it on the desk. Of course I give the pear to her gladly after this. When she finished  eating the pear, I asked her to clean her mouth and then put the napkin into the rubbish bin. I was so surprised that she did that by herself. I rewarded her with a big smile and a thumbs up. I am really very happy with the changes that are taking place in Hong Zhu these days.
