Eagles Wings Foster Homes

Eagles Wings Homes have been set up, not just as an alternative accommodation arrangement for our abandoned children but a place they can call 'home'.

Our family group homes give the children a place they belong with "ayi's" that really do become "Aunties" as they live together and share.  Each home is a model of family life where the children grow up with their 'siblings', learning and living and "doing life" together.  These children are no longer orphans - they have an extended family that loves and cares for them.

Our foster homes are called “Eagles wings” because we want the children to rise higher above the storms of life.

Each home is a family group where the children our love and cared for.

Eagles Wings 1 is the residence of Linda Shum (while in China). Located in a community residential area, it is also home to nine children who attend school in the city or our school Xi Wang Le Yuan.

Eagles Wings Homes 3 - 8 are located on the 10th floor of the CWI allowing easy access to the school for children facing mobility challenges, mostly due to cerebral palsy and spina bifida. Under the excellent care of their home care staff and teachers, many of these children are learning to walk for the first time. All children, including our non-walking children, can make use of the elevators or stairs to attend school on either the 7th or 9th floor, spend time in the extensive grounds or easily visit the markets located next door.  The project enables children to reach developmental milestones and receive the extra love and care that they need to thrive.  Our older boys and girls live more independently but with the guidance of ayis.  These older children now work in various roles within MengLin.

As children in our homes are chosen for adoption, they are prepared for their lives in their new "forever families" ... always knowing that we have loved and will continue to love them as family.  Where possible, contact is made with adoptive families via skype, email or post, to allow for as smooth a transition as possible.  As positions become available in our homes, they are filled with children from the orphanage according to their needs.

Director of Homes: Our homes are overseen by our very capable Director of homes, LouHuan.  LouHuan has been working for COAT since she was a part-time university student when we first began.  She was previously our Support Services Manager and Office Manager.

LouHuan is known to the children as 'jiejie' or 'older sister'. She manages ayis, organises health care and is basically 'mama' to all of our Eaglets.  We would be lost without her.

Lou Huan is pictured here with her husband (and China MengLin Director) XiaoGuang and their daughters Lin Lan and Jia Lin. They also have a son, XiangLin, adopted from our Eagles Wings Family in 2016.

Most of our Eagles Wings children have special needs. COAT provides love and dignity to all of our children, no matter how severe their difficulties are.  Where medical intervention can be sourced, this provides hope and a more optimistic future for the child.  Others may be in our care for the longer term and we aim to provide the best care and health possible for them.

We have qualified volunteer medical advisors who provide consultation on medical issues as they arise.  They also assist with preventative measures and training.
